George William Lawler, Jr

George William Lawler, 79, of Fair Play passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Parkview Healthcare Facility in Bolivar. He was the only child born to George William Lawler, Sr. and Mary Pearl Lawler in Kansas City, Kansas.

George was a high school graduate and attended both Penn Valley College and Johnson County Community College while living in the Kansas City area. He worked for many years as a stock control supervisor for the Avon Company.

George and Donna Rae Forgey were married June 22, 1957 celebrating their 57th wedding anniversary this past year, and to their union 5 children were born. Upon retirement they moved back to Fair Play in 1998 where they resided upon a portion of Donna's family farm.

George was very athletic as a young man and participated in numerous sports activities. He did some boxing, played in baseball and softball leagues, and even played in an over-35 soccer league. He loved to play golf and regal his family with his experiences on the golf course. He was artistic and enjoyed oil painting with landscape scenes being of particular interest.

He and Donna were active in their church in Kansas City and were very involved in the Countryside Assembly while living in Fair Play.

George was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Donna of the home; sons George William Lawler III of Headley, Texas, Rodney Benjamin Lawler and his wife Diane of Fredonia, Kansas, Brent Edward Lawler Sr. and his wife Michele of Largo, Florida; daughters Donna Joyce Choate and her husband Ray of Bolivar, Missouri and Renee Jewell Pearl Stanford of Fair Play, Missouri; 19 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Memorial funeral services will be held 6:00 PM Tuesday, February 17, 2015 at Countryside Assembly in Bolivar officiated by Pastor Gray Norden. Burial will follow at a later date in the Barren Creek Cemetery near Fair Play.
