KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- A combination of a sizeable height advantage and long-range shooting proved too much for Kansas City Kansas Community College to overcome Tuesday.
Draining 14 three-point goals and holding a 51-29 rebound advantage, streaking Iowa Western raced to a 94-73 win at the KCKCC Field House. The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 8-4 heading into their final pre-holiday test at home against Wentworth College Friday at 7 p.m.
Thik Bol, one of four 6-7 players on the Iowa Western squad, and 6-0 guard Andrew Wallace led the Reivers (9-4) to their sixth straight win.
Bol scored 16 points on 8-of-10 shooting, hauled in 15 rebounds and blocked six shots while Wallace was 8-for-14 from three-point range in leading all scorers with 26 points. The Reivers were 14-of-33 from three-point for 42.4 percent but finished at 51.4 percent overall.
The Blue Devils got standout performances from guard Ray Ridley, who had a double double with 11 points and a career high 11 assists, and 22 points from C.J. Vallejo including 6-of-9 three-pointers.
Joe Lendway added 14 points and five rebounds while Jeremy Shorter scored seven points, Andre Runnels and Devin Ruis six each and Armoni Shorter five points and five rebounds off the bench.
The loss was doubly costly because second leading rebounder Austin Hall suffered a leg injury three minutes into the game and did not return.
