Charlie’s House 10k, 5k Run/Walk and Kids’ Fun Run to raise awareness during Baby Safety Month

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- Everyone knows that in the game of baseball players are safe at home. Charlie’s House, wants all parents and caregivers to know how to keep children safe at home.
On Sunday, September 28 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark in Kansas City, Kan., the local non-profit will mark a milestone in raising awareness and funds with its 2nd annual fundraising event, Charlie’s House 10k, 5k and Kids’ Fun Run, Home Run for Safety.
“It has been almost seven years since our two-year-old son Charlie was killed in our home when a dresser fell on top of him,” Jenny Horn, Charlie Horn’s mom, said. “That dresser was only 30 inches high. His dad and I have been working diligently with a dedicated team of volunteers since that time to educate parents to keep their children safe at home. We hope that this event, appropriately held during national Baby Safety Month, will bring us closer to that goal. We walk for our Charlie. We walk for all Charlie’s out there who we need to keep safe.”
Safety educators from Charlie’s House will be on site to provide free furniture safety-straps and checklists on how to safety proof your home.
The family-friendly event will feature both a 10k and 5K walk/run around Village West and a Kids’ Fun Run which will take place inside the ballpark. A family-fun Kids’ Zone will offer games, face painting, a crazy hair booth, and appearances by some of your favorite super-heroes.
The Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department will be on site with a pumper display and Interactive Fire Demonstration House. Children’s Mercy Hospital will have an ambulance on display. Demos on car seat safety and Driveway safety will be offered as well.

7:00 a.m. – On-site Registration and Packet Pick-Up (Advance pickup also available.)
8:00 a.m. – 10k, 5k Start
9:30 a.m. - Kids’ Fun Run Start (Approximately)
Advance registration for the 10k is $40, 5k is $30 and $10 for the Kids’ Run. Registration on the day of the event is $45 for the 10k and $35 for the 5k. Families of 4+ receive $5 off each 5k or 10k entry.
