KANSAS CITY, MO. – Five days after a tornado tore through Baxter Springs, Kansas, The Salvation Army continues to provide essential aid to residents directly impacted by the disaster.
As of today, Salvation Army caseworkers have offered financial assistance to 118 people, providing nearly $12,000 in aid to help individuals obtain immediate necessities, including clothing, food, personal care items and medicine.
On Thursday, the organization relocated its social services office from Trinity Worship Center to the Multi-Agency Resource Center, located at the Baxter Springs High School, 100 N. Military. Individuals may apply for assistance between 9 am and 5 pm until further notice.
The Salvation Army is also continuing its mass feeding operations in Baxter Springs. To date, the organization has served more than 900 meals, 1,400 drinks and 1,180 snacks to residents and others assisting with clean-up operations in the community.
Sunday’s tornado in Baxter Springs destroyed more than 100 homes and businesses and injured 25 people. Salvation Army emergency disaster services (EDS) teams are also providing support and assistance to tornado-devastated areas of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Iowa, Alabama and Mississippi.
