TOPEKA, KAN. — Sandy Praeger, Kansas Commissioner of Insurance, has appointed Joyce R. Banks, current assistant comptroller for the Kansas Insurance Department (KID), as the agency’s new comptroller.
Banks is replacing Kathy Bohnhoff, who is retiring from the department after 13 years.
“I’m pleased that Joyce will be able to step right into the director’s position with a minimum of disruption,” Commissioner Praeger said. “She knows our comptroller division up and down. Kathy did too, and we are grateful to her for many years of conscientious service. We wish her well in her upcoming activities.”
Banks began working for KID in 1983 as a clerk typist. She moved into the accounting area in 1996 and assumed the assistant comptroller position in 2012.
The Comptroller Division at KID handles accounts payable and receivables for the department. The division receives and deposits to appropriate accounts more than $160 million each year. Most of these receipts go to the state’s general fund.
The division also coordinates the procurement of department supplies and oversees building services and maintenance.
