KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- The Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department is investigating a fire that injured two residents.
Firefighters responded to a fire at an apartment complex just after 8 p.m. on Monday at 1304 S. 32nd Street.
After arriving on the scene, firefighters rescued a 56-year-old woman from the building, who was later taken to the hospital after suffering significant smoke inhalation.
A man was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
"Crews on the scene within three minutes reported smoke and fire showing from the top floor of a three-story apartment building," said Craig Duke, PIO Deputy Chief for the KCK Fire Department. "Crews located fire on 3rd floor. During primary search of fire, apartment crews located an unconscious victim in a rear bedroom. Crews removed victim from structure."
About 20 residents evacuated the apartment complex and $5,500 worth of damage was reported.
