The Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department announced its decision earlier today. High winds are to blame for the ban.

The National Weather Service forecast for today April 1, 2014 indicates high winds for the majority of the day causing concerning for outdoor fires. Due to these high winds and the dry conditions, the Kansas City Kansas Fire Department asks that all residents who have burn permits for today refrain from any outdoor burning until further notice.
Any residence that has a burn permit that for today, can go to their nearest Fire Station to request a burn permit for whenever the burn ban is lifted. Outdoor burn permits must be issued twenty-four (24) hours before the three (3) day burn permit starts.
