KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- A new year means dropping a few pounds and getting into shape for many people. For Kansas City, Kan. community members and students, faculty and staff at Kansas City Kansas Community College, it cannot be easier to do so with the Wellness & Fitness Center.
Located on the KCKCC campus, the wellness center has 11,000 square feet of space, complete with an indoor track, aerobic studio, weight room, stretching area and a vast amount of cardiovascular equipment. That equipment includes treadmills, bicycles, steppers, climbers and an aerobic super-circuit. In addition, the wellness staff provides personal training sessions (for an additional fee), body composition analysis and fitness testing. Locker room and shower facilities are available for members to use. The center is designed for the use and benefit of the KCKCC employees and the students as well as members of the community.
“It is free for the full-time staff to use and a great price for students,” said Pamela Hall, with the Wellness & Fitness Center. “The accessibility and user-friendly environment is great. The staff is highly qualified and available for guidance at all time. We have a great variety of classes and equipment to meet a variety of fitness levels.”
The Wellness & Fitness Center, located in the upper level of the Allied Health Building, is open from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It is closed on Sundays as well as days when the campus is not open.
Among the spring aerobic classes are Zumba, Yoga, Tai Chi, Pilates, walk/run, stretch and conditioning and boot camp. Class times vary throughout the day so that most anyone’s schedule can be accommodated and additional fees are associated with some of the classes.
Students, staff and community members have until mid-term to enroll. The cost for Kansas residents is $98 per semester, which equates to $19.50 per month.
If a KCKCC student, enroll in EXSC 0148 Wellness & Fitness Center I or EXSC 0149 Wellness & Fitness Center II. This is a one credit hour course and is eligible for financial aid. If a KCKCC employee, enroll in EXSC 0147 Employee Wellness and complete a tuition scholarship form. Those who are interested can also enroll at the Wellness & Fitness Center.
