Fire causes $130K worth of damage; KCKFD investigating

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- The Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department is investigating a fire that happened at an apartment building early Wednesday morning at 1760 N. 73rd Terrace.

No one was hurt in the fire, but it caused over $130,000 worth of damage to property and contents inside of the home.

Firefighters hit apartment just after midnight Wednesday.

Initially ignited on the first floor, the fire spread to the attic of the building.

"Crews were informed that all residents had self-evacuated," said Craig Duke, PIO Deputy Chief of the KCK Fire Department. "Primary search confirmed all occupants out of the building. Crews found heavy fire in one apartment. Fire had extended into storage area in attic and had gone through the roof."

It took 20 minutes to control the fire on the first floor and an additional 50 minutes to control the attic fire.

A fire investigator is investigating the fire.
