The T-Bones acquired Squires, 25, from Traverse City of the Frontier League in exchange for a player to be determined. Squires, who’s 6-feet-2 and 195 pounds, went 1-2 with two saves and a 2.60 ERA in 55 1/3 innings for Traverse City in 2013.
The Florida Marlins drafted Squires in the 37th round of the 2010 draft out of Indiana University.
He reached double-A with the Marlins in 2011 and ’12. In four professional seasons, Squires has a 7-9 record with four saves, 168 strikeouts, 62 walks and a 3.39 ERA.
“We can use him in several roles in the bullpen,” said Massarelli, whom the T-Bones hired as manager on Nov. 6. “His fastball touches 90 and his changeup is his out pitch. I want guys who have command and can throw hard. From all I’ve seen, Chris fits that description.”
The T-Bones acquired Noga, 23, from Windy City of the Frontier League in exchange for second baseman Jairo Perez.
Noga, who’s 6-feet-1 and 165 pounds, spent 2013 with Kansas City’s American Association opponent, Sioux City, but was sent to Windy City during the offseason to complete a trade between those two clubs. Noga, who struck out 58 and walked five as a senior in 2013 at East Stroudsburg University, went 4-12 with a 5.72 ERA in 20 games for Sioux City.
“I knew about Andy Noga when he was in college, so he’s been on my radar,” said Massarelli. “After cutting his teeth as a rookie in Sioux City, he’ll still be a rookie for us in 2014, which is huge. Needing four rookies, and wanting four good ones, obviously, I think he can pitch significant innings for us. He had some quality starts for Sioux City and some rough ones, which is typical of a rookie.”
Linares, 27, comes to Kansas City from Amarillo, completing an August 2013 trade between the two teams that brought Brandon Jones to Kansas City in exchange for Kyle Nichols.
Linares, who’s 6-feet-1 and 175 pounds, reached double-A with the St. Louis Cardinals organization in 2009. He pitched for Amarillo and Wichita in 2013, and went a combined 4-4 with two saves and a 4.93 ERA in 32 appearances.
“Linares gives us a good arm from the left side with good stuff,” Massarelli said. “Much like Squires, he’s someone who could be used as a set-up guy or closer.”
The T-Bones open the 2014 regular season at home on May 15 against Lincoln.
