KCKCC’s Phi Theta Kappa Chapter helping others during Thanksgiving

KANSAS CITY, KAN. ----- Kansas City Kansas Community College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa is using part of their Thanksgiving break to give back to others.

Stacy Tucker, sponsor for Phi Theta Kappa at KCKCC, said the 5 Ways of Giving event is an opportunity for students to work in the community without worrying about attending classes, homework or studying for tests. Students can volunteer one day or multiple days.

Events taking place during the 5 Ways of Giving event include:
  • Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013: Habitat for Humanity House build from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 23: St. Jude Give Thanks Walk at the Community America Ballpark (T-Bones). Donations welcome. All donations will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
  • Tuesday, Nov. 26: Mosaic. KCKCC will be working with individuals with disabilities and help serve Thanksgiving dinner.
Two earlier events included a food drive on the KCKCC campus. Students, staff and faculty were asked to donate non-perishable food items to donate to the KCKCC Community/Outreach/Women’s Resource Center.

There was also an E-Recycle Drive Nov. 16 at the Habitat for Humanity Restore in Kansas City, Kan.
