Playing ranked teams has never been a problem for Kansas City Kansas Community College coach Mary Bruno so hosting No. 1 ranked Cowley County Wednesday night is seen as a great opportunity.
Tipping off at 6:30 p.m., the contest has been designated as the 3rd Annual Pink Out Game with the Lady Blue Devils outfitted in pink uniforms in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“I’m excited,” says the third year mentor whose only losses this year have been to ranked teams. “I think we have a real shot at them. Our players are prepared and I’m hoping we’ll give them a real good battle.”
While Cowley is 8-0 in the Jayhawk Conference and 26-4 overall, the Lady Blue Devils are tied for third in both the Region VI (6-2) and the Jayhawk (5-2) standings with three matches remaining.
Overall, the Blue Devils are 17-9 but all nine losses have been to teams ranked in the Top 20 in either Division I or Division II. KCKCC is coming off a 3-0 sweep at Southeastern Nebraska, winning 25-16, 25-15, 25-11.
The Blue Devils are back home again Monday against Coffeyville, finish out their Jayhawk season at Labette Oct. 30 and host their final home game against Longview Nov. 5. All contests start at 6:30 p.m.
