A new initiative to provide services to the homeless in Kansas City, Kansas is underway with the KCK Police Department, Unified Government and Wyandotte Homeless Coalition.
Leaders of the groups are meeting to discuss launching the Homeless Outreach Team, designed to involve law enforcement to coordinate services for the homeless.
The program has achieved success in Wichita and Topeka by better coordinating and providing services which keep homeless citizens out of jail and into needed treatment and assistance.
KCK Police Department officials anticipate implementation of the program during the first quarter of 2014.
