WINNIPEG, Canada – The Kansas City bullpen gave up three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning as the T-Bones dropped the series finale against the Winnipeg Goldeyes, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon.
The T-Bones got a strong start from Michael Joyce, who, in his first start for Kansas City, allowed just four hits in four scoreless innings. Ryan Fennel followed Joyce with two scoreless innings, which helped keep the game scoreless heading into the seventh.
Kansas City scored the game’s first run in the top of the seventh, when Trevor Coleman and Anthony Davis delivered consecutive singles. Coleman scored on an error by third baseman Yurendell De Caster. Coleman and Davis each had two of Kansas City’s five hits in the game.
The lead didn’t last, though, as relievers Sean Toler (2-4) and Keith Picht gave up three runs in the bottom of the eighth. For T-Bones outfielder Ray Sadler led off the inning with a walk, followed by a game-tying RBI double by Josh Mazzola.
Casey Haerther followed with a single that scored Mazzola and gave the Goldeyes their first lead of the game. Two batters later, Luis Alen completed the game’s scoring with an RBI single.
Winnipeg starter Matt Jackson took a no-decision after allowing only one unearned run on five hits to go along with his 11 strikeouts.
