Individual auditions for three major vocal groups at Kansas City Kansas Community College will be held Monday, Aug. 19, the first day of Fall Semester classes.
The auditions for the 2013-14 Chamber Choir and Vocal Jazz 1 and Vocal Jazz 2 ensembles will be held from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Choir Room.
“Students may audition and be selected for multiple ensembles,” said John Stafford, KCKCC Director of Choral Music. “Also, to be a member of these ensembles, you must have the class times available for both the Fall and Spring semesters.”
The Chamber Choir meets at noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday; Vocal Jazz I at 1 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday; and Vocal Jazz 2 meets from 2-3:15 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.
“These ensembles have a certain time commitment outside of class but it is very manageable,” said Stafford. A rehearsal and performance schedule will be distributed to all students at the start of the semester to allow them to manage their schedules.
Stafford said students may begin signing up for an 8-minute audition time slot immediately in the Choir Room or by contacting Stafford at 913-288-7137 or jstafford@kckcc.edu. Also, returning choir members still have to audition.
Preference will be given to students who can sing in groups both semesters although all students are encouraged to audition. The ability to read music is not required but will be expected as the semester progresses because of a much stronger focus on sight reading.
Call backs will be held following the Aug. 19 audition.
The Chamber Choir call back will be held Wednesday, Aug. 21, at noon; with Vocal Jazz 1 and 2 call back at 1 p.m. A second Chamber Choir call back will be held at noon Friday, Aug. 23.
