AMARILLO, Texas – For the second consecutive night, Kansas City couldn’t hold a lead of at least five runs, but the T-Bones rallied for three in the ninth en route to a 14-13 win.
One night after taking a 9-4 lead into the seventh inning, before eventually losing 11-9, the T-Bones jumped ahead quickly with eight runs in the first three frames. In the bottom of the fourth, however, Amarillo tagged starter Shaun Garceau for six runs.
Kansas City added two in the top of the fifth, thanks to a two-run home run by Kennard Jones, only to see the Sox score three more in the bottom of the inning against Garceau.
The T-Bones held that 10-9 lead briefly. Each team traded single runs in the bottom of the seventh and top of the eighth. Then, Amarillo seemingly took control with a three-run bottom of the eighth against reliever Sean Toler (2-2).
In the top of the ninth, Luis Rivera and pinch-hitter Petey Paramore reached base, before Joey Gathright and Kennard Jones struck out.
With two outs, Devin Goodwin singled, scoring Rivera, before Matt Padgett knocked a two-RBI double that scored Paramore and Goodwin and gave Kansas City the lead in the ninth. It was part of a three-for-five night for Padgett.
Chad Robinson came on in the ninth and got his fourth save.
Although Garceau didn’t get a decision, he recorded two of Kansas City’s three strikeouts. With those two, he now has 501 in his career.
Kansas City (24-37) and Amarillo (32-25) are scheduled to conclude their four-game series on Sunday night at 6:05.
