AMARILLO, Texas – The Kansas City T-Bones scored first and held on in extras for a 6-5 win on Sunday night and a series win over the Amarillo Sox.
Kansas City got the scoring started in the second inning on back to back doubles from Jairo Perez and Felix Molina.
In the fourth inning Matt Padgett homered for the league-leading 18th time. Two batters later, Jairo Perez homered for his third consecutive game and 15th time this season, giving Kansas City an early 3-0 lead.
With the T-Bones leading 3-1 and Lucas Irvine (4-4) going for a complete-game victory for Kansas City in the ninth, Amarillo benefited from a one-out error by Felix Molina and then three singles, tying the game at 3-3 and sending it to extra innings.
In the 10th, Kansas City scored three times, thanks to an RBI double from Devin Goodwin, who scored two batters later as Kyle Nichols reached on an error. Matt Padgett, who was intentionally walked after Goodwin’s double, scored on a wild pitch by Josh Giles (1-4).
Amarillo wouldn’t go away, as the Sox scored twice in the bottom of the 10th, but Sean Toler got the final two outs and picked up his third save for Kansas City.
Kansas City (25-37) took three out of four games from Amarillo and scored 40 runs in the series. The T-Bones, who have won six of their last seven, begin a three-game series Monday night at Laredo (34-26), with first pitch scheduled for 7:30.
