LAREDO, Texas – Kansas City sent eight to the plate in the first inning and jumped out to a 3-0 lead en route to a 9-3 win over Laredo on Tuesday night.
In the three-run first, Kansas City got RBIs from a Kyle Nichols sacrifice fly, a Jairo Perez single and a bases-loaded walk to Felix Molina by Laredo starter David Newmann (4-4).
Laredo scored two in the third, but the T-Bones took full control in the seventh. An RBI double by Matt Padgett that scored Kennard Jones, and, four batters later, a bases-clearing double by Felix Molina gave Kansas City a 9-3 lead.
Jones, Padgett and Molina all had at least three hits (Padgett had four), as Kansas City racked up 14 in the contest. Jones homered for the second time of the road trip and finished the night a triple shy of the cycle. Molina went three for four with four RBIs, while Padgett went four for five with two RBIs and two runs scored. Kansas City had eight of the nine in the lineup either score or dive in at least one run.
T-Bones starting pitcher Dustin Loggins (4-3) pitched six innings in a winning performance, while he struck out four and allowed three runs.
Kansas City (26-38) and Laredo (35-28) are scheduled to play game two of the three-game series on Tuesday night at 7:30 at Uni-Trade Stadium.
