KANSAS CITY, KAN. ---- Darron Fuqua dominated the USRA A-Modified feature by lapping more than half the field.
The Mayetta, Kan., driver started from the pole and never looked back in a race that went green, white, checkered and took right at nine minutes to complete.
Jason Bodenhamer gave chase the entire race, but could never get to within a front-stretch length of Fugua’s back bumper. Bodenhamer would finish third at the end as Nic Bidinger, in a borrowed car no less, worked his way through the field to finish second.
Luke Driscoll and last week’s feature winner, Tim Karrick, battled hard the entire race and would finish fourth and fifth, respectively.
Don’t let the fact that Nate Barnes led every lap of the Factory Stocks feature lead you to believe it was boring, hum-drum race. In fact it was the Factory Stocks that put on one of the most exciting shows of the night, as you could just about put a blanket over the top-three at any time.
John O’Neal Jr. and Brett Heeter early on were battling with Barnes and then O'Neal and Bobby Tavis at the end. While Heeter would end up falling back, O’Neal and Tavis finished second and third. Defending Factory Stock champion, Justin Siefer, put on quite a show of his own, winning the B-Feature. He started last in the A and passing Steve Johnson with one lap to go to finish fourth.
Brad Smith, whose first career victory came May 8, 2004, picked up his 99th career trophy in the USRA B-Modifieds. The second generation driver from Belton, Mo., needed just four laps to go from his inside row-4 starting position to take the lead from Terry Bruner. Bruner would fade back as the race for second and third started to develop. Point leader, Aaron Marrant, and last week’s feature winner, Chad Clancy, went back and forth numerous times with Marrant, barely edging out Clancy for second. Former champions, Gene Claxton and Nick Newton, rounded out the top-five.

Gary Donaldson, entering the night seven points out of the point lead, made the most of the Grand National feature by leading every lap on his way to victory lane. Current point leader, Marshall Jewett, raced hard but could only muster a fifth-place finish and may have relinquished the point lead to Donaldson. Donnie Brown, Tim Shields and Dennis Melvin finished second, third and fourth respectively.
“Racing on the River’s Edge” continues every Friday night through October with the USRA A-Modifieds, Grand Nationals, USRA B-Modifieds and Factory Stocks. Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps at 6:45 p.m., and the first race gets under way at 7:30 p.m.
Adult ticket prices are $12, kids 7-12 $6 and children six and younger admitted free. Senior citizens and military personnel with ID are admitted for $10.
