TOPEKA, KAN - The deadline for college juniors, seniors, graduate and law students to apply for the Kansas Governor’s Internship Program has been extended. Students have until August 30, 2013 to submit their applications for the fall internship program.
The program is designed to give students hands-on experience of working in state government and allow students the opportunity to contribute to improving the State of Kansas.
Internship specialization opportunities in the Governor’s Office include positions in Appointments, Communications, Constituent Services, Legal, Lt. Governor, First Lady, Budget and Policy as well as the Hispanic and Latino Affairs Commission, the African American Affairs Commission, Kansas Commission on Disability Concerns, the Governor’s Grant Program, and the Native American Affairs Commission.
Each cabinet level agency also offers opportunities for interns, these include; Labor, Commerce, Revenue, Transportation, Agriculture, Adjutant General, Aging and Disability Services, Highway Patrol, Administration, Securities Commission, Corrections, Juvenile Justice Authority, Children and Families, Wildlife, Parks and Tourism, Health and Environment and the Kansas Department of Education.
The fall internship program runs from September to December, and students are expected to work at least 16 hours per week. Some internships may be paid. All interested students must submit an internship application from the Governor’s website, along with a current resume, signed consent form, two letters of recommendation, a statement of interest, and an optional writing sample.
Completed applications are due by August 30, 2013, applications received after this date will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
