Tonja Speer, Wyandot Center executive director, was selected as one of two persons in Kansas to participate in the Crisis Counseling Assistance and Training Program (CCP) of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
Speer is now aFEMA master trainer for crisis counseling.
States were asked to nominate two individuals to gain the knowledge and tools necessary to conduct standardized trainings for the FEMA program.
The training occurred in early June at the National Emergency Training Center, Emmitsburg, Md.
The course was co-sponsored by FEMA and the Center for Mental Health Services within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
