LINCOLN, Neb. – The T-Bones battled late, scoring all of their runs in the final four innings, but couldn’t overcome 13 walks given up by the pitching staff in a 7-6 loss to the Saltdogs on Sunday night at Haymarket Park.
Kansas City got into a hole early when Lincoln scored three runs in the first two innings, thanks in part to a hit batter and four walks given up by starter Aaron Tullo. Although there was a force out, the first six batters of the game reached base for Lincoln.
Then, with one out in the sixth, Kansas City got its first hit when Steve Yoo, making his T-Bones debut, hit a solo home run to left. In the next inning, Yoo, who went two-for-four, hit an RBI single to right that scored Devin Goodwin.
The T-Bones, after tying the game at 4-4 in the top of the eighth with a solo homer by Matt Padgett, promptly saw that tie vanish as the Saltdogs scored three runs in the bottom of the inning. Jhonny Montoya (1-1) gave up two hits and walked three in the inning.
Kansas City put together another rally by scoring two in the top of the ninth, highlighted by a home run by Goodwin, but was unable to get the tying run in from second.
With the loss, Kansas City (13-17) goes 1-3 against Lincoln during the series, and finishes the roadtrip with a 3-4 record.
The T-Bones begin a six-game homestand, with the first three against Grand Prairie, starting Monday night at 7:05 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
