KANSAS CITY, KAN. – The Student-Athlete Foundation of Kansas (SAF-K) will hold the inaugural Spirit Race 5K Walk/Run and Kids’ Fun Run this Saturday, June 22, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The 5K Walk/Run begins at 8:00 a.m. and the Kids’ Fun Run begins at 9:00 a.m.
The Spirit Race is a benefit for SAF-K, a nonprofit organization that provides certified athletic trainers to high schools in Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties for high school practices and games in multiple sports.
Proceeds from the race will provide portable defibrillators for every trainer at every high school. The medical devices, or AEDs, can diagnose potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions on the playing field or court.
Students from Harmon, Piper, Schlagle, Sumner Academy, Turner, Washington, Wyandotte, Leavenworth & Lansing High Schools will be wearing their school colors to show their spirit in the Spirit Race 5K. Students, parents and coaches from other schools are invited to join the fun at this worthwhile event.
Registration for the 5K and Kids’ Fun Run is still available at spiritrace.com or before the race at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
Kids can participate for free if a parent or guardian signs up. The race and fun run follow a fun course around the ballpark near the Legends at Village West. Prizes including T-Bones tickets, Sporting KC tickets, and movie and restaurant passes will be awarded.
