Following a 40-minute delay due to a power outage after the eighth inning, the Kansas City T-Bones, behind the power of Matt Padgett, flew past Laredo in game one of the three game series, 9-6, on Friday night at Uni-Trade Stadium.
Padgett, who went three-for-four with six RBIs and two runs scored, helped get the T-Bones on the board early with a two-run homer in the top of a three-run first inning for Kansas City. It was Padgett’s sixth home run of the season.
Laredo scored two runs in the fourth inning off T-Bones starter Brian Murphy (1-2) and tied the game at 3-3. The T-Bones replaced the two runs quickly with a two-run double by Padgett in the fifth. Padgett wasn’t finished.
In the top of the seventh, leading 5-4, the T-Bones added four runs, capped off by a two out, two RBI double from Padgett.
After reliever Ethan Cole loaded the bases with two walks and a hit in the bottom of the ninth, Jhonny Montoya (4) got the final two outs for the T-Bones.
Kansas City (5-9) and Laredo (11-3) are scheduled to play Saturday night at 7:30 in Laredo. The live broadcast can be heard online at tbonesbaseball.com or on 1660-AM, the KMBZ Business Channel.
