KANSAS CITY, KAN. --- On a night that looked to be all about USRA Modifed points leader Darron Fuqua, it ended up being a new face in victory lane.
Chris Spieker found out that even with a fast hot rod, you still need a little luck sometimes. Fuqua paced the modified field and at times, led by a full straight away when out of turn four, he quickly found his way into the infield with a motor that was overheating. He gained the lead and the Massena, Iowa native won his first feature win of 2013. Terry Schultz, Tim Karrick, Kerry Davis and Justin Johnson rounded out the top five.
In the Grand National Division, it was Don Marrs finding victory lane for the first time this year. Marrs used the top line of the racetrack to power his way to the front - and into the McCarthy Auto group winners circle. Marshall Jewett would finish second with third going to Gary Donaldson.
The always wild USRA B Mods lived up to its reputation, as action all over the racetrack kept the fans on the edge of their seat's while Edwardsville, Kan., driver Jake Richards picked up his second feature win of the year. Richards started outside of row one and used that to his advantage, as he was able to use the top line of the track all night to lead all 15 laps. Gene Claxon, Aaron Marrant Chad Clancy and Nick Newton rounded out the top 5.
The best race of the night came in the Factory Stock Division, as Marshall Jewett found himself high-fiving his pit crew in Victory lane, but not after a challenge from Shaun Foster, Vic Tranckino, Brett Heeter and John O'Neal Jr.
“Racing on the River’s Edge” continues every Friday night through October with the USRA A-Modifieds, Grand Nationals, USRA B-Modifieds and Factory Stocks.
Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps at 6:45 p.m., and the first race gets under way at 7:30 p.m. Adult ticket prices are $12, kids 7-12 $6, and children six and younger admitted free. Senior citizens and military personnel with ID are admitted for $10.
