Defending Factory Stock champion Justin Seifert apparently needed a couple months to get back in to the groove of things at Lakeside Speedway.
The Kansas City, Kan., driver dominated last week’s feature and managed to double up with the feature win tonight as well. Starting seventh, it took Seifert half the race to take the lead from Philip Holcomb and once there, he was able to hold off the late race charge by Brett Heeter, beating him to the line. Scotty Moore finished third, while Bobby Tavis and Sean Foster rounded out the top five.
Jake Richards arrived as one of 41 USRA B-Modifieds in attendance tonight, but he left as the top of the class. Richards, also from KCK, showed just why he is a two-time Lakeside Speedway champion tonight as he was able to best last week’s feature winner, Aaron Marrant, on his way to victory lane. In third, behind Marrant, was Chad Clancy followed by Brad Smith. The only repeat feature winner this season in the B-Modifieds, Gene Claxton, finished fifth.
The Grand National feature provided numerous lead changes with the last leader being Marshall Jewett. Gary Donaldson and Donnie Brown also took turns leading but would end up finishing second and third, respectively. Steve Dibben and Dennis Melvin rounded out the top five.
If there is such a thing as the perfect set-up, Nic Bidinger, found it tonight in the USRA A-Modified feature.
From the drop of the green flag to the waving of the checkered flag, this race belonged to the Perry, Kan., native. Sedalia, Mo., driver Terry Shultz ran a hard race, moving from eighth to second. But even with lap traffic, he couldn’t muster the speed to compete with Bidinger. Tim Karrick and Darron Fuqua put on a great show, battling for third and fourth for most of the race and would finish in that position. Kerry Davis raced from 13th to finish 5th, advancing three positions in the last lap alone.
“Racing on the River’s Edge” continues every Friday night through October with the USRA A-Modifieds, Grand Nationals, USRA B-Modifieds and Factory Stocks.
