After a cold and wet weekend, the Kansas City T-Bones faced their first live pitching of the season on Monday night and beat the Lee's Summit Monarchs, 6-0, in an exhibition game at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
Kansas City jumped on former T-Bones and current Monarchs pitcher Jonathan Krysa with eight batters and two runs in the bottom of the first inning on RBI singles by Ray Sadler and Felix Molina.
Brandon Jones widened the lead with a two-run homer in the fourth inning that scored Justin Bass.
“I thought the at-bats were pretty good, especially for our first time on the field,” said T-Bones manager Kenny Hook. “It’s very tough to face a guy like Krysa who has a ton of experience and throws with enough velocity that you have to respect him. He was a good first guy for us to face.”
After Kansas City area native Derek McGowan threw a scoreless top of the ninth, the T-Bones added two more in the bottom of the inning of the exhibition contest.
The T-Bones are scheduled to face the Lincoln Saltdogs on Tuesday night at 7:05 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
