Kansas City Kansas Community College will observe 2013 National Senior Health and Fitness Day with a full day of activities Wednesday, May 29.
Everything from yoga, stretching and strengthening, nutrition and diabetes education to bed gardening, canine companionship, affordable care and Social Security and Medicare changes will be covered in programs from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the KCKCC Wellness and Fitness Center on the east side of the KCKCC campus at 7250 State Avenue.
“A great opportunity to experience a variety of workshops,” says Pam Hall, lead Wellness and Fitness Center personal trainer. “We are eager to give seniors the chance to not only experience something healthy but something they might incorporate into their lives.”
The program schedule and presenters (all morning programs in either Room 2901 or Aerobic Studio of Allied Health Building; afternoon programs in Conference Center adjacent to Campus Lake):
Allied Health Building
8-8:25 a.m. – Welcome.
8:30 a.m. – Stretch and Strengthen, Debra Likens.
9 a.m. – Raised Bed Gardening and Kansas Prairie Star Annuals, Don Crim.
9:30 a.m. – Yoga, Shari Augustine.
10 a.m. – Dining on a Budget and Dining for One or Two, Lori Wuellner.
10:30 a.m. – Moving, Grooving and Drumming Your Own Beat, Rochelle Norman.
11 a.m. – Diabetes Education, Melissa Zalonis.
11:30 a.m. – Want to Start Riding a Bike? Brendan Sheehan.
Conference Center
Noon – Snacks and conversation.
12:30 p.m. – Canine Companion Opportunities, Valerie Webb.
1 p.m. – Affordable Care Act, AARP Representative.
1:30-2:30 p.m. – Social Security & Medicare Changes, AARP Representative.
