Five adults and three children escaped an apartment fire Tuesday afternoon at 1115 Gilmore.
Kansas City, Kan., firefighters responded to the scene at around 12:10 p.m. on Tuesday. They discovered smoke coming from the second-floor of the apartment complex. The fire was extinguished within 10 minutes.
About $3,000 worth of damage was done to the apartment, but the fire was contained to a limited portion of the complex itself.
"Fire damage affected the second floor apartment and the apartment below," said Craig Duke, Battalion Chief of the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department. "BPU was called to shut off power to both apartments. None of the remaining 16 apartments were affected."
The American Red Cross was called to assist the five adults and three children. No one was injured.
Duke said the fire remains under investigation.
