Turner School District
At the regularly scheduled Turner Board of Education meeting on April 16, Douglas Lockwood was seated as a duly-elected member, replacing the late Randy Beery.
Lockwood won the position, beating two other candidates in the April 2 general election. He will serve the remainder of the term initially held by Beery, which will end on June 30, 2015.
Lockwood, a 64-year-old retired lawyer, is a long-time resident of the Turner community in Kansas City, Kan., having lived in the district for a total of 20 years. Through his marriage to Linda Alvey, his Turner roots grow even deeper as she hails from a six-generation Turner family.
Linda, her father and grandfather are all Turner graduates.
Lockwood’s children have also graduated from Turner schools, while two of his grandchildren are current Turner students.
Lockwood holds BS and MBA degrees from Central Missouri State University, a juris doctorate from the UMKC Law School and is a certified financial planner holding a CFP certificate issued by the College of Financial Planning.
He also has taught higher education classes at CMSU. Raised in southern Arkansas, Lockwood migrated north with his parents following high school, ultimately landing in the Kansas City area.
He started his professional working life in the field of information technology at a time when computers were the size of cars and software languages were in their infancy.
He continued to build on his initial education and training moving into human resources, corporate management, law and financial planning.
In talking with Lockwood, one quickly recognizes that he continues to be an energetic participant in the dynamics of an active and involved lifestyle. He expresses a keen intent to contribute to the well-being of children in Turner, drawing on an exceptional set of professional skills and personal life experiences.
Lockwood will serve the children of Turner as a highly-qualified educational decision-maker, but beyond that, he will shine as a welcome role model for students who expect to ascend to leadership roles in our global society.
