The Unified Government Board of Commissioners voted Thursday to approve of a new community improvement district for the Schlitterbahn Vacation Village.
The CID will span a portion of the property from 94th to 98th and State Avenue.
A two percent sales tax add-on will be implemented to pay for the costs associated with the project.
About $9 million will be used on various projects in the area, including the reconstruction of State Avenue, new lights at the entrance, sanitary and sewer projects and increased construction of the water-park.
The tax will commence on July 1, 2013.
The sale tax funds generated will be disbursed by the Unified Government on a "pay-as-you-go" basis.
A public forum was held before the vote, but no one spoke about the CID.
