Kansas City Kansas Community College freshman Dominique Washington posted a sweep of post-season conference basketball honors in 2012-13.
A 6-7 post from Hogan Prep, Washington was named to both the Region VI’s Division II and All-Jayhawk East Conference’s first teams in a vote of league coaches who could not vote for their own players.
Washington was the only Division II player selected to the All-Jayhawk East first team where he was joined by Earl Peterson and Montel James of league champion Coffeyville, James Milliken and Dominique McKoy of runnerup Cowley and TraVaughn White of Independence, which finished in a tie for third with KCKCC.
Evrard Atcho, a 6-10 sophomore from Cugy, Switzerland, who was not eligible the first semester, was named to the Division II honor roll. Second in the Jayhawk with 61 blocks in 22 games (2.77), Atcho also averaged 6.5 points and 6.3 rebounds.
Joining Washington on the Division II first team were Thaddeus Rideau and Wendell Pierre of Region VI champion Brown Mackie, Mahlon Jones of Hesston and Christian Hildebrandt of Johnson County.
Averaging 18.6 points a game, Washington led all scorers in Division II and was third among all players in the Jayhawk East and West. He also averaged 9.0 rebounds which was second best in Division II and No. 4 in the Jayhawk.
Washington was amazingly consistent over the course of the season. In double figures in 29 of 32 games, only once did he score less than nine points. Twice over 30 with a career high 38, he scored 20 or more points in 23 games. He also had at least six rebounds in every game but two and had 10 or more 11times.
An outstanding shooter, he shot 55.1 percent for the season including 22-of-64 from three-point, the second best average on the team.
