Unified Government At-Large Commissioner Mark Holland has announced he's running for mayor.
Holland made the announcement this week following current Unified Government Mayor/CEO Joe Reardon's decision to not seek a third term.
Holland has been a commissioner for six years.
“After much thought and prayer, I have made the decision to file for the Office of Mayor/CEO of the Unified Government of Wyandotte County/Kansas City, Kansas,” Holland said. “As a fourth generation native Dotte and a third generation pastor in KCK, I am passionate about the direction of our community."
Holland is currently serving his second term as a UG commissioner.
In his announcement, he praised Reardon's leadership and time as mayor.
"It has been an honor and privilege to work with Joe Reardon the last six years in office," Holland said. " I believe our whole community owes he and his family a debt of gratitude for their commitment to public service. As we lose a phenomenal leader in Mayor Reardon , I believe it is essential for a strong voice of leadership to carry on the vision he has worked to develop with our community stakeholders.”
