Learn how you can be pain free by attending Providence Medical Center’s free orthopaedic joint pain seminar and as a bonus, take advantage of a free leg vein screening on Wednesday, Dec. 19 at the Providence Care’s Holiday Heart Mart at The Legends Shopping Center, Kansas City, Kan.
The Heart Mart is located between Charming Charlie and The Yard House.
John Vani, M.D., a Providence board-certified orthopaedic surgeon, will share information about the latest treatments for total joint replacement and osteoporosis from 2 to 3 p.m.
Following this free and informative seminar, a leg vein screening will be conducted from 3 to 5 p.m. by Venkat Pasnoori, M.D., a Providence board-certified cardiologist.
The seminar and screening are free of charge. Reservations can be scheduled by calling 800-281-7777.
Participants attending the joint seminar will learn about prevention, treatment and testing as well as the risks, symptoms and treatment for bone and joint issues.
“Bone and joint issues are something most of the aging population deals with,” says Terry Jett, Providence's Orthopaedic Department Director. “The more information you have, the better equipped you are to deal with problems that arise."
Total joint replacement, such as hip or knee replacement, is a procedure of orthopaedic surgery in which the arthritic or dysfunctional joint surface is replaced with an orthopaedic prosthesis. Osteoporosis is a disease of bones that leads to an increased risk of fracture.
According to Dr. Pasnoori, more than 25 million adult Americans have some type of varicose veins that can lead to a serious condition called venous reflux disease.
The risk factors include varicose veins, 50 years and older, overweight, female and a family history of heart or vascular disease.
“A simple screening can be conducted to check for this disease,” Dr. Pasnoori says.
Dr. Pasnoori performs a minimally invasive procedure to treat venous reflux disease that is virtually painless. Male and female patients recover quickly and can go back to work immediately. The procedure is covered by insurance and Medicare.
Dr. Vani is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with more than nine years of experience in total joint reconstructive surgery. He is a member of the Kansas City Orthopedic Society and the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons and practices at Providence and Saint John Hospital in Leavenworth.
Dr. Pasnoori joined Providence in 2012 as a board-certified interventional cardiologist. He provides cardiac diagnosis and treatment, including cardiac catheterization using radial artery in the wrist; coronary angioplasty and stenting; peripheral angiography and stenting; minimally invasive closure of holes in the heart known as patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defects; and non-surgical treatment of varicose veins with ablation therapy.
He also has expertise in implanting pacemakers and defibrillators and has special interest in women’s cardiovascular health. He is also board certified in cardiovascular diseases and internal medicine.
