Much has been made about the Republican domination across the State of Kansas in the past two election cycles.
However, at least one seat in the Kansas Senate will be flipped to the Democratic column after this year's election.
Democratic challenger Pat Pettey easily defeated Republican incumbent Chris Steineger Tuesday night in the Kansas District 6 Senate race.
Pettey won a convincing 62 percent of the vote, or 11,339 in raw numbers. Steineger, the former Democrat, won 7,008 votes.
Steineger had represented the Kansas Senate's 6th District since 1997. In 2010, Steineger left the Democratic Party and joined the Republicans.
For Pettey, it's a return to the Kansas Legislature.
She served in the Kansas Legislature from 1992-1996. She was also on the Unified Government's Board of Commissioners from 1997-2011.
