On senior night at Piper High School, the Piper Pirates senior class took another step in becoming one of the most accomplished senior classes in recent Wyandotte County football history.

The Piper senior class won its third straight district championship, as the Pirates hammered Bishop Ward 41-6, improving their record to 7-2 on the season.

Once again, it was Piper's deep rushing attack that paved the way offensively.

Piper finished with 241 rushing yards on just 31 attempts. Senior Matt McDonald had 52 rushing yards on seven carries, while fellow senior Paul Jones added 42 yards on six carries.

Travon Jones - the younger brother of Paul Jones - led the Pirates in rushing with 62 yards on just six carries.

McDonald scored an early touchdown in the game.

Last week against Sumner Academy, Tanner Eikenbary did not have one passing yard. This week, Eikenbary had three touchdown passes.

He connected with Colton Beebe, Dalton Hays and Cliff Rangel on touchdown passes, helping the Pirates build a 27-0 lead by halftime.

Eikenbary finished the game 9-of-16 for 136 yards and three touchdown passes. In relief, senior quarterback Jack Rogers tossed a touchdown pass to Jordan Guess, a sophomore wide receiver who's expected to do big things in the future.

Dating back to 2009, it's the ninth-straight district win for the Pirates.
