News Release
Fourteen buildings in the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools will be recognized for meeting the district’s targets for student achievement at this evening’s (October 23) Board of Education meeting set for 5 p.m. at the Central Office and Training Center.
They will be presented with gold, silver, bronze and/or blue banners.
The awards applaud schools for student scores on the MAP, EXPLORE, PLAN and ACT tests, which were administered in the spring.
“It is important for us to recognize the strides our staff and students continue to make toward excellence,” said Dr. Cynthia Lane, superintendent of schools. “We implemented a new system of assessments in the district in the spring, so these scores will serve as a baseline from which to measure our future growth.”
To meet the gold standard, schools were required to meet the standard on the MAP, EXPLORE, PLAN or ACT. To receive the silver standard, schools were required to score within five percent of the standard on the MAP, EXPLORE, PLAN or ACT.
For the bronze, the criteria included scoring within 10 percent of the standard on the MAP, EXPLORE, PLAN or ACT.
Meeting the blue standard means that schools came within 10 percentage points of the standard on the MAP, with significant growth from fall to spring.
