POMONA, N.Y.- Right-hander Bobby Blevins worked his way through 8 2/3 shutout innings as the Rockland Boulders held on to defeat the Kansas City T-Bones, 1-0, in a game that lasted only 1 hour, 51 minutes at Provident Bank Park.
Blevins (8-6), who baffled KC hitters all night, retired 12 consecutive T-Bones between the third and seventh innings and hurled five different 1-2-3 frames. And, while Blevins ended up with the win, he was overshadowed by T-Bones starter Brian Grening for much of the night.
Grening (7-4) retired the first 17 Rockland hitters of the night, notching a perfect game through 5 2/3. The only run of the night came when Keith Brachold hit a one-out home run to right-center, his 25th of the year.
The T-Bones nearly tied the game in the ninth when, with two outs and two runners on, Ray Sadler singled to left. Brandon Jones, who had been on second, was thrown out at home for the final out of the game.
