Newark, N.J. - Bears starter Mike Ness worked eight innings of six-hit, two-run ball, leading Newark to a 5-3 win in the second game of a three-game set at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium on Tuesday night.
Ness (8-2) struck out 10 T-Bones and walked none. His only blemish came in the fourth when KC’s Ray Sadler took him deep to right-center for a game-tying, two-run homer, Sadler’s 12th.
Newark scored one run on two hits in the second, one run on one hit in the third, and one run on two hits in the fifth. The Bears tacked on single runs in the seventh and eighth, rounding out their steady attack.
Liberty, Mo., native Hunter Mense lined a homer to right off of Bears closer Jorge Vasquez in the ninth, his sixth, and finished two for four. Mense, who is currently hitting .305, was the only T-Bones player with multiple hits.
The loss drops Kansas City to 41-36 overall. The T-Bones will look to salvage the finale of the series at Newark on Wednesday morning, with the first pitch set for 10:05 CT.
