AMARILLO, Texas - Devin Goodwin finished four for four with two home runs as the T-Bones put together their biggest run output of the season in a 17-8 victory at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium on Wednesday night.
Goodwin, who hit a two-run homer in the series opener on Tuesday, hit solo home runs in the sixth and seventh innings on Wednesday. He tacked on two singles in a perfect night at the plate.
Kansas City scored in six consecutive innings from the second through the seventh, getting four in the second, three in the third, two in the fourth, two in the fifth, five in the sixth and one in the seventh, putting the game completely out of reach.
Ray Sadler blasted a two-out grand slam in the sixth, his second grand slam of the year and his 15th homer overall. Rookie Spiker Helms had a big game as well, going three for five with three singles and three runs scored.
T-Bones starter Josh Rainwater (6-10) worked his way through seven innings. He allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits. In getting the win, Rainwater walked two and struck out six.
Kansas City’s previous high-water mark this season was 16 runs, which the club scored on June 23 against, coincidentally, Amarillo.
The blowout victory improves Kansas City to one game above .500 at 48-47. Game three of the four-game set is slated for a 7:05 start on Thursday night.
