Goodwin leads way to series win at Rockland

Devin Goodwin blasted two solo home runs, registering his first multi-homer game of the season, as Kansas City won the game, which included a 1 hour, 42 minute rain delay between the bottom of the fifth and the top of the sixth, and the series with a 10-7 victory at Provident Bank Park on Sunday night.

The T-Bones scored three runs in the first inning, three more in the second and one in the third, chasing starter Gustavo Chacin. The first inning was highlighted by a Lee Cruz two-run triple.

In the second, Goodwin hit a long leadoff homer to left-center, his 11th, and Brandon Jones capped the inning’s scoring with a two-run line drive home run to right, his 9th. KC tacked on one run in the third that made the score 7-1.

The T-Bones extended their lead to 9-1 in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Cruz. But, Rockland didn’t give up. The Boulders scored five runs in the fourth off of Kansas City starter Shaun Garceau before rain halted play.

When play resumed, reliever Steve Kent struck out five batters in two scoreless innings of work, Sean Toler worked a perfect eighth, and then closer Mike Mehlich slammed the door in the ninth, allowing one unearned run.

The series win improves Kansas City to 41-34 on the season as the T-Bones match their highest amount of games over the .500 mark at seven. The T-Bones begin a three-game series on Monday night against Newark at 5:35 CT.
