David M. Ketchmark, Acting United States Attorney for the Western District of Missouri, announced that a Kansas City, Kan., man was sentenced in federal court today for the attempted armed robbery of a convenience store.
Mario Brown, 23, of Kansas City, Kan., was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Greg Kays to 10 years and one month in federal prison without parole.
On Jan. 4, 2012, Brown pleaded guilty to attempted armed robbery and to brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. Brown admitted that he attempted to rob the Millennium Super Store, 1603 W. 12th St., Kansas City, Mo., on Jan. 13, 2011.
An employee of the business saw Brown and another man, who were wearing all black clothing and white masks and holding handguns, approach the store doors.
The employee magnetically locked the front doors and the robbers fled on foot.
Another witness saw the two robbers, along with a third accomplice who was dressed the same way, get into a vehicle and drive east on I-670.
Law enforcement officers identified the vehicle from video surveillance. Officers canvassed the area and located the car at an apartment complex. When Brown got into the vehicle and began driving, he was stopped and arrested.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin G. Davids.
It was investigated by the FBI and the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department.
