Kansas City Kansas Community College reached the 20-win plateau Wednesday to set up a critical four-game series with league-leading Cowley at Community America Ballpark Friday and Saturday.
Tied for fourth with Coffeyville at 13-7, KCKCC trails Cowley (16-4), Neosho (15-5) and Johnson County (14-6) heading into the back-to-back doubleheaders which get underway at 1 p.m.
The Blue Devils improved to 20-13 with 3-2 and 8-2 wins over Rockhurst at Community America Wednesday.
Cisco Medina scattered seven hits, struck out four and allowed only one run over six innings to get the win in the 3-2 opener over Rockhurst. Derrick Winter, who struck out two of the three hitters he faced, got the save.
Matt Dye led an 8-hit KCKCC attack with two singles and a double while Dean Long singled and doubled. The Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead in the first on a double by Andrew Kreiling and single by Dean Long and added the two decisive runs in the fourth on singles by Long, Dye and Poncho Amaya, who would steal home for what proved to be the winning run.
Brandon Witt provided the big blow in the 8-2 nightcap win, a 3-run home run following a single by Sam Laney and a hit batsman in the second inning. A double by Kreiling and single by Trent Sullivan made it 4-0 and the Blue Devils put the game out of reach in the fourth with four more runs featuring by singles by Witt, Kreiling and Sullivan, each of whom had two singles.
Eli Egger got the win, striking out six while allowing two runs in five innings. Tyler Langford and Landon Teal finished up with an inning each.
