DOROTHY P. NALLEY
January 4, 1916 - January 28, 2014
Dorothy was born Jan. 4, 1916 in Anderson, MO to Walter Lee and Laura Mae (Herring) Williams. She grew up in Anderson where she graduated from Anderson High School. Dorothy married Luther C. Nalley on Sept. 23, 1934 in Gingerblue, MO. They moved to De Soto in 1942. She was a member in FCE for over 70 years. Dorothy was a charter member of the De Soto Baptist Church where she was active and in the ladies ABW. She was a Sunday School teacher for 57 years and taught Vacation Bible School for 52 years. Dorothy was a very active member of the Kansas and Johnson County Democratic Party and was an election board worker. Dorothy served on the Beautification and Enhancement Committee for the city of De Soto for 15 years.
She was a past Grand Marshall for the De Soto Days Parade and the “Popcorn Ball Queen” at every Halloween. She wrote a column for the De Soto Explorer called “Neighbors” for over 10 years. Dorothy was an Avon representative for 51 years. She will be dearly missed by family, friends and her community. We all know she is now with her Lord, Jesus Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Luther; infant daughter, Beverly; sisters, Mary, Thelma and Nadine; brother, Norman; grandson, Jeff and great- granddaughter Lauren Nalley. Dorothy is survived by her children Carlin and wife Nancy Nalley, Lisle, IL, Jerry and wife Linda M. Nalley, Overland Park, KS, Edwin and wife Jeanne Nalley, Plano, TX, Michael and wife Linda C. Nalley, Edmond, OK, and Deborah and husband Paul Chandler, Rantoul, KS; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
